Is My Gun Steel Shot Compatible?

Rule of Thumb; if your shotgun barrel does not have factory interchangeable choke tubes, then do not fire shot shells loaded with steel shot.

The steel shot pellets do not compress like lead pellets as they travel down the barrel. All barrels have a choke constriction at the muzzle, this area may bulge if you use steel shot shells.

Later model SKB's have interchangeable choke tubes. Most of these have a serial number prefix starting with NS, NA, and AS . These have been approved for use with steel shot.

Also note that steel shot should not be used with tighter constriction choke tubes.  Please refer to the SKB Choke Tube Charts for constriction limitations.

We cannot recommend steel shot compatibility on any other older models.
